We are in the process of moving out of our apartment and need to do a couple of repairs. My husband fell a while back and his whole knee went through the wall in our apartment, leaving an unsightly hole. He's out of town until we move next weekend, so I thought I'd try to fix it myself. Can someone tell me please what I need to buy so I can try to fix this mess? I don't want the apartment to fix it, as they will use all of our deposit and then probably send us a bill for more. HELP!

Also, we have a dog, and when he was little he chewed on the bottom edges of two walls, going all the way down to what looks to be metal. Again, I need help on what to do to fix this/what to buy. Anyone willing to help out there?

If the hole is not too big you might be able to fix it with a "wall repair patch" and "joint compound", which you should be able to purchase at your local hardware store. If the hole larger than the patch would cover then you'll have to cut out the drywall to the center of the closest studs and install a new piece of drywall, tape the seams, and mud them with the joint compound.

What did the dog chew into, base board, or drywall? If it's the drywall you can use the joint compound to smooth things up and out. Hope this helps, and good luck!

The dog chewed into the baseboard and the drywall. All I know to do with the base is to sand it down with my sand sponge and possibly paint over it again, but I think the compound I bought can fix the corners he chewed that are part of the wall. Thanks so much for your input. I'm starting this evening and making my way to Home Depot. I just didn't want to sound to ignorant when I got there. Thanks again.

Hope everything goes okay for you, and let us all know how it turns out.

Wick, just wanted to thank you and the others for your help regarding the hole in the wall. I did it! It looks better than the apartment complex could have done in my opinion. It took me a couple of hours, but I got it done. Home Depot even helped me match the paint exactly, so I don't think the apartment will be the wiser for it. Thanks again!
