My dryr vents through the roof, it goes into the wall at the same level as it comes out of the dryer. Only have 2" of room for a 4" vent. So what I did was ran the vent direct from dryer to where it goes through the wall, using only 12" of hose. Will this be safe and work effectivly ?

Not sure but should be OK if you used a metal hose to connect the drier to the vent to the roof. I have seen flat sided metal connections that telescope for just the problem you have. You might look into using one of these.

I'd pitch the drier vent run slightly down and away from the dryer just in case some wind driven rain gets into the vent.
