We're looking at purchasing an older home (built in 70's) at the outskirts of our city (in city limits) Its on city water but has its own septic system. A new development is going in across the street with city septic and we're concerned we may get a notice and be forced to go on this after the closing date. Im curious how much this might cost and anywhere else I should try to do research on it. Ive been calling around and around city agencies but not getting much of a response.

Hi Lilky,
A couple of things to address here.As a first,if sewage is an issue or going to be one,it should show up somewhere in the closing.Your attorney should be able to get a handle on this prior to closing day or be able to protect you against a presently known plan coming down the road.
To tie in to the sewer at a close distance
should not be that expensive and definetly beats having a septic tank pumped out annually. If I were in your shoes,I'd knock on the doors of the neighborhood, introduce yourself, and see if others have any information for you.Review your concerns with your attorney now.Good Luck!
