We have chosen our floor which will be hard wood - white oak. It goes great with our natural hickory cabinets. This white oak is not stained.
We are going with a company that uses red oak trim/molding (it's twice the cost for white oak and we can't afford it). When I compare the red oak trim piece to the sample of the white oak floor, they look different. (Although the trim piece did not have the polyeurthane finish on it yet so it might look different after that).
We don't want to stain the trim and it wouldn't matter anyway since a stain still wouldn't be able to match a natural white oak floor.
I guess my question is - am I being ridiculous? Does it really matter if the natural oaks don't match perfectly? Do you think red oak trim would look good with white oak flooring? Maybe after the trim is polyeurthaned, it won't be as noticable.
Thanks in advance,
