Hi Folks,
I am getting married in May and should be a first-time home owner at the end of April. We're registering at Home Depot for some tools. Here's our situation. We've always rented and consequently never owned more than a couple of screwdrivers and wrenches.

For some of you guys that have more experience at this, what are some of the most useful tools to have around the house?

We've made a preliminary list, so please add, delete, and comment or make specific recommendations as you see fit.

Cordless drill 12 - 14.4 V
Circular Saw
level
mitre/manual saw
set of screwdrivers
set of nutdrivers
pipe wrench

lawn mover
hedge trimmers (electric or manual)
chain saw

anything else you folks have found useful, please share your experience.

thanks,
Nate

I'd add the following:

At least one good hammer.
A good tape measure (25 foot).
A combination square.
A good pointed shovel.
A leaf rake.
A yard rake.

More than what you've listed and these things really depends on what you plan to do around the house. If you're just thinking about general repairs, then some things can be left until later. But if you're looking at renovations, the list might be longer. I'm sure others will add to this.

You might want to add:
Leaf blower
Awl
Cordless Drill and a set of bits
Cordless Screwdriver
(Black & Decker makes many tools that have interchangeable rechargable batteries. This is very convenient. If you ask for these, put extra B&D batteries on the list too.)
Hand Vacuum
Staple Gun
SHELF TRUCK!!! a.k.a. a dolly
Pruning shears
Snake light flashlight
Best of luck in your new life.
