Why does our home have a strange odor when we open up the windows. When the house is closed up we never smell it. It is not a sewer smell nor a moldy/musty smell. The best way to describe it is that it smells similar to the odor put out by some types of air purifiers.... like ozone. Please help us solve our problem so we can enjoy opening up our house for some "fresh air". Thank you.

Do you have a basement? One story or two?
Is the odor noticed everywhere in the house?
Can you reduce it by closing some doors?

More info. Have you made any effort to isolate the problem?

ozone is the smell of fresh air and you want to know why you smell it when you open the windows for fresh air?
