Curb Appeal needed for 1954 brick ranch

Why is it all the TV design shows have aluminum sided houses that can be painted to change their "look?" Where does a brick ranch house owner go for tips on curb appeal?

Any ideas on where I can find info on changing the look of a brick ranch house? Matching trim colors with brick? Landscaping examples? We're not going to paint the brick exterior.

Just some thoughts:
How about adding flower boxes below the windows? Can the trim color on the windows be changed? The front door may be able to be painted. Change the light and your house numbers by the front door.
You may be able to get some landscaping ideas from these shows though.
