I have track ligkting in kitchen/dining room which is a vaulted ceiling. One of the tracks fell about 1". I figured the people before me thought they got the screw in a stud and missed it. I pulled the screw out and it wasn't attached to anything. It was not a wood screw or drywall screw. It was a screw you use with a toggle? I went to the hardware and bought the toggle bolts and put them in. I ended up having to buy 4" screws because there is a double layer of drywall with about 1 1/2" of space in between. Why would someone do that and should I be concerned about anything else?

They might have had to use a toggle in order to make the unit fit where they wanted it. Finding a stud might have required placing it differently.

I think you may have misunderstood my question. It wasn't so much why they used a toggle, but why there were 2 layers of drywall with about 1 1/2" between them on my ceiling.
Kinda sounds like they redid the ceiling for some reason,and instead of pulling down the old rock they put new up over it and dropped it an inch and half so it would be flush all the way acrossed maybe because the old stuff was warped and unlevel so this would insure it being even.
Just my opinion,I wouldn't worry about it,if you owned the house long enough if it was or had a leak you would know by now.
