Hi, I'm starting a handyman business and I would like to know if I need any licenses and how can I get it.
Thank you all.

Depends on where you live. Most major cities require a business privilage license. That's usually a one time fee you pay for. Then a business search is required to make sure the name you intend to use is not already taken by someone else. You can work under this license for handyman repairs, but when it comes time to pull permits for a specific job, a master's license is mandatory. Example: You want to replace a broken curb trap and at the same time install a new water service from the city main into the house. You would have to be a licensed master plumber. The same applies to Electricians and Carpenters. Here in the City Of Philadelphia, Licenses and Inspections has jurisdiction on what you can do. They also have the authority to post a cease and desist order on any property they find unsuitable or where the proper permits were not applied for. Check with your municipal or township authority to see what specific license you need for the work that you intend to do. Best of luck with your business, Tom
The only thing you should carry for yourself is liability ins,but you may want to check and see if you need anything else in your county.
The liability ins will protect you incase you spill anything on expensive carpet or wreck a floor or if you happen to drive a bobcat thru a sliding glass door.Accidents do happen these are things I have seen done and 1 of my guys spilled a gallon of stain on a brandnew roof would of cost me $1200.00 to replace instead it was a $200.00 deductible, and a gallon of stain, both of which is taken off on taxes anyhow. So just to cover your own rear it is only $400.00 a year for a Million $ worth of coverage where I live. This does not cover if you get hurt.

Good Point Retisin. Liability is just that. You are liable for incidental's. I Don'twnt to stray too much from the original posters thread, but my auto insurance is outrageous. Minimum liability for 1 auto is $800.00, and that's the state minimum. Pennsylvania here. I believe the state of New Jersey is the highest in the nation.
