To make along story short we noticed we had mold growning in the corners of our bedroom then ice formed on the baseboard! Upon further inspection we had mold growning up the wall behind anything that was against the walls...dresser's, stored boxes in our walki-in etc.. The builder came out and it was discovered that we had major air leakage between our foundation and frame and their way of fixing the problem was cutting huge pieces of drywall out and filling the gaps with expanding chalk! On top on everything else we had a roof leak, the vents for the bathroom were never connected and the dryer was venting into the attic instead of outside and we have only lived in the house 1 1/2 years! Anyway....my Question is does anyone know about vapor shielding? Is it standard for builder's to use it over the entire frame or just behind brick? Our home was not built with it and we are wondering if that was a big part of the problem!? Any info about vapor shield or new home construction would be much appreciated as we are trying to gather as much information as we can find!

Thanks!

A vapor shield, or secondary weather barrier is usually required over sheathing and under all types of outside siding, brick, vinyl, wood, concrete or otherwise.
