I had the same problem with internet explorer. It seems to result from some of the security patches.
Try the open source Mozilla Firefox 9.1 / 9.2 browser at www.mozilla.org Much faster, smaller with full features including ad-blocking. Check out some of the program extensions. Automatic login.

Hi tomh and joed,
I have sent the address of this thread to the BobVila.com gurus. Hopefully we'll get a response. This has been a known issue for a while.
Also, tomh, I am trying out that Firefox browser (you'd recommended it in one of Plumber Tom's posts). It seems OK so far but it can't seem to remember me any better than IE.

The mozilla foxfire will ask if you want to save passwords. The stored information is under the menu Tools / Options /Saved Passwords. Turn on save password information checkbox, and you will be prompted whether you want to save. After that it is automatically entered.
Any more when I reply in the BBS or login to the administration page, the page goes to login, and all the information is already entered. I just hit enter and can reply to a post. Made things lots easier.
By the way, you know a new For'em is rolling out probably tomorrow with voluntary registration and a login. Hopefully the new login will be easier to use.
(this message was deleted once because I took too long to complete it and the system logged me off. It was posted as anonomus and disappeared)

Hey folks
I just released some updates to BBS and Fix It For'em that should solve the auto-login problem. If it does not work right away, I'd recommend deleting cookies from bobvila.com on your computer. Also make sure, if using Internet Explorer, that your Privacy settings are on "Medium High" or lower.
Here's a tutorial on how to delete cookies using Internet Explorer...

I obviously did not test every browser on every operating system, so if people notice problems feel free to post them in this thread.

Howdy Bob,
Well it isn't working for me (the auto-login), and actually is worse on IE than "firefox."
With IE (cookies and files cleared; "medium high" security) it just returns to the top-200 list and "Not Logged In" status.
With Firefox I can login (this is how I'm submitting this post); it 'remembers' my password but still doesn't log in automatically.
Thoughts? And by the way, thanks for your efforts on improving our great BBS!

Sorry K2
I did a bit of testing personally with IE and got some other people to test more with IE and they said it was working correctly. I primarily tested with Firefox because you have all that control over the cookies, and theirs tools to read the HTTP headers and so on.
I guess its back to drawing board for a bit. If you do use Firefox though it should work for the time being, and you should be able to go back and forth between the BBS and the BBS admin tool without having to login each time too.
More news very soon.

I have been back and forth posting between the Fix-It Forum and BBS this morning...using Mozilla Firefox...and only logged on one time. So far, its a great improvement. I did notice I was unable to access the login from the top of the most recent 200 list and had to login the first time from a posted message. Other than that, so far, so good. (I wonder if K2 is using a Proxy server?)
Hello again Bob and thanks for the quick response,
I actually was able to login via IE this time, by hitting "reply" to this thread (vs. logging in via the "Login" on top-200. But maybe this is because you might have backed out the update(?) But regardless, I am submitting this response via IE (which didn't remember my password, by the way).
Thanks again for all your efforts!
