I am restoring the woodwork in a 100 year old house. There are nicks that have blackened over the years in the woodwork.
should these be taken out or left in? How would they be removed?

Many people choose to leave these nicks as is since it adds character to the piece? The darkening of the wood is called patina, and once again many people refuse to eliminate it. There are two main methods of eliminating these marks:
1. Sanding
2. Wood filler that has been stained to match
the color of the wood.
If this is a true antique piece, any work that you may do will probably devalue its worth. The decision is yours!!!!!
