can a chimney that runs from the roof to the basement be removed? we would like to remodel or fix up our basement but the chimney is right smack in the middle of the basement. if it can be removed how can a person remove it?

I just removed 3 chimneys from my 18 century home and they were brick and the people that were hired to do them took hammers and broke them i n pieces but beware that it is veeery messy.

Rpauda65....are you SURE the chimney isn't "structural"....(holding up the upper floor(s) in some way)?

If it were me, I would not attempt this as a DIY project. At least till I knew a lot more first.

thank you for your advice. we havent thought of that. and we really hadn't looked that close too it. i don't think the chimney has anything to do with house but we will check it first. thank you again. rpauda
