I want to remove a ceramic towel bar that is somehow mounted (screwed/cemented/??) onto drywall. The perimeter around the creamic ends is caulked, so I can't tell exactly how it is attached to the wall. I'm afraid it is secured INTO the wall via large holes. Can anyone advise me on how to do this? Thank you.

Some of those ceramic ones just lift straight upwards (not outwards!) for removal. (There would be a metal plate underneath attached to the wall.)

Obviously the caulk would have to go. THis may or may not be a big job. Hopefully it's no big deal. Try a razor knife.

Other types of towel bars have setscrews that attach to the metal plate--although I haven't seen ceramic ones like this.

It's usually just a bit of a fishing expedition, figuring out how it's attached and the 'cleanest' way to remove.

Interestingly enough, it can be a bigger job than it first appears. It involves finding a suitable place for mounting, leveling, wall patching, etc. Not one of my favorite DIY projects, personally. But you get through it. Good luck, and if you find anything unusual you can post back; we'll try and help!
