I am remodling a house that was built 95-105 years ago by my great grandfather. Of course all of the walls are lath and plaster. Someone told me that the plaster could contain asbestos, is this true? How can I test it?
Its possible, but very unlikely the plaster contains asbestos. Asbestos really was not widely used until after the 1930s and even then it rarely shows up in plaster. Its easy to test for by taking a full depth bulk sample to a local analytical lab, but I would be surprised if you find anything other than cellulose or animal hair fiber. Call the lab and get a price for PLM (polarized light microscopy) analysis. Should be less than $50.
