I have recently discovered hardwood floors underneath some very old carpeting. The old carpet padding has dried out and is stuck to the wood. Is there a way to clean this off without sanding them? The floors look like they are in pretty good shape, otherwise.

Greetings Robyn,
Congratulations on your find! Quite often such floors need quite a bit of work, including patching, sanding, refinishing. There is damage caused by carpeting tack strips, for example. But it can still be worth it. And you might get lucky, too!
I'd suggest posting this over in the Flooring Forum; more folks might see it over there.
Good luck!
