I am working on replacing the ceiling in a public showerhouse. There are five showers runing approx. 5 hours a day. I have issues with mildew on the current wood ceiling due to the amount of moisture in the showerhouses. I am looking for a alternative to wood or drywall, does anyone have any suggestions.

Wood or moisture resistant drywall should be fine so long as the paint contains a mildewcide and there is adequate powered exhaust ventilation for the shower room.

Otherwise a typical solution is to install ceramic tile.

I inherited this problem. Have layers and layers of kills painted on it now, but most likely the problem developed when it was first installed.
