My 21 inch 2 cycle snow blower just started running extremely rough. There is some "smoke" coming from the exhaust and also an oil residue. What could the problem be?

Are you SURE it's a 2-cycle snow blower? Sounds like oil in the gas (where there shouldn't be any), or too much oil in the mix (for 2 cycle). Possibly also bad gas. Has the gas been sitting there for a couple years?
If it were me, I'd start by draining the gas (or mix), get the ratio right and start over. It'll need to run for a few minutes to get the bad gas outta there. And, just for grins, doublecheck that it's really a 2 cycle. Good luck.
