You're not going to believe this! but I am in a wine club myself and have tried to remove wine labels....not an easy task.
In one meeting a while back (Denver area) someone suggested using ammonia (I guess a dilute solution) and that it works well for the task.
Please try it and post back if you have success. I haven't tried. Removing labels hasn't been all that important to me (after all, it's what's INSIDE that counts!, right?) but I would still like to know! thanks! And if you're making wine, here's to a great year!

This message is for k2 just to let you know I have not tried the ammonia on the wine labels but I will wait till I get about a dozen in a week or less you asked me to let you know so when I try I will give you the results. I will be getting in touch within a week. Terry
Yes Terry, please let me know. I need to be bottling the '04 reds within the next couple of months myself.
I have yet to try any of the label-removing methods (except elbow-grease) and usually end up just leaving the old nasty ones on!
Good luck with your vintages! So far, mine all taste OK! Here's to a great year!

This message is for K2 I tried the ammonia and the most work was pouring the ammonia out of the bottle. I ran about 4 inches of water in the sink and poured just enough to turn the bottle and then let a small amout out not much. Then I let the bottles sit for 5 minutes then with the help of my finger nails they just peeled off. I had 2 different tyes of bottles so their were more glue on the one but was still easy thanks a lot.Terry
Hey thanks Terry, thanks for giving the ammonia a try!
BTW, what kind of varietals are you making? :) I've got (for 2004) a Sangiovese, merlot, cab and syrah. Will have lots of racking, filtering and bottling this summer. are you in a wine club, or just DIY?
thanks again!
