I live in Florida and my home will be vacant for a month. What things should I do for my house beforehand? I've heard that I should set the thermostat to 85 and turn off the water. But that's about it. I plan on emptying the fridge and freezer...but do I turn the temps up or what? Do I turn off some breakers or just unplug most everything? I was hoping to find some sort of checklist on the internet for "summerizing" my home, but all I can find is a bunch of grammar-challenged posts that have nothing to do with preparing my home for a month-long summer vacancy. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you for the link. This seems to be consistent with all of the other info I have located. The problem is that it will be summer in Florida...freezing pipes are hardly an issue...at any time of the year at my house.
What I am most concerned about is protecting against humidity while not having the A/C running 24/7.
I read somewhere...a few years ago...that I should put a pan of kitty litter in each room. Set the A/C to 85. Close up the blinds. Unplug unncessary things. Turn off any breakers I can. Turn off the water.
I just want to be sure I do everything I can....and avoid doing any unnecessary things or damaging things.

Sorry, can't help you much with "Summer-izing"! In fact I can't imaging being in warm weather for very long at a time! :-)
Setting the A/C (What's that :-) to 85 sounds reasonable. Of course keeping the temp down would help with the humidity levels too (we don't get much of that stuff either!)
Kitty litter. Really, I would guess you've heard some good advice.
You might try posting to one of the forums moderated by "Handyman"--he lives in FL.
Sorry I'm not much help. I wish I didn't have to worry about frozen pipes!
By the way, I would still (FL, CO, or anywhere) shut off the water to the house!
