The NEC has nothing in it about the placement of stoves.

I looked in the 2000 IRC and could not find anything either.

It depends on what codes you are under. Check with your local building department.

I have "heard" that stoves should not be installed under a window because of possibility of currents catching on fire.

But I know of anything specific.

One general requirement in most codes is that equipment has to be installed following the manufactures instructions. That might be a limiting factor.
