The teenager "warmed" the egg casserole just a little too long (totally blackened), yet not enough to set off the smoke alarms. I've sprayed air freshener, opened windows (just a little brisk), turned on ceiling fans, yet a day later most of the house still has a faint smell of "blackened egg casserole". I'm pretty desperate, since I have relatives arriving later this evening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This happened to a friend of ours (pot left on stove) and the resulting smell was atrocious.

He called in one of those smoke mitigation companies (used by insurance companies) -- but he elected to pay for the mitigation himself rather than file an insurance claim--which might have expensive consequences down the road.

One thing they might do is bring in big exhaust fans and blow the odors out of the house. It might come back--but to a lesser degree. Sometimes the smell gets into carpeting and other materials--the only option to eliminate the odors might be replacement (depending on how bad it is).

As the holidays/relatives are fast approaching, you might call one or two of those companies and see what their services are--see if you might be able to get some ideas...at least until such time as you can line up a more permanent solution...good luck
