Hi can anyone help me?

I live in a 6th floor apartment, and the dryer vent outside my window whose metal 'flap' slams shut and squeaks like mad! I understand that the 'flap' is to prevent birds from nesting there.

My problem is the squeak. It is about 6ft above my window, so I can't reach it to put some wd40 on it. there's no ladder possibilities either, as it is soooo high up.

Is there some kind of extenda-luber that I can buy that will reach that far?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Welcome! I don't suppose there's any chance that your landlord (or building maintenance department) might tackle this for you, is there?

Just a thought - as they might have some trick for dealing with these things. Such as accessing them from inside the building - so as not to endanger life and limb in the process.

thanks very much for the quick reply.

No, their take on it is it isn't bothering anyone else....so deal with it. Nice eh?

Im to the point that Im gonna get one of those white noise machines to drown it out....seems like a cop out though

"not bothering anyone else"... hmmm, Have you tried begging, pleading, being more annoying, etc...

I have this mental image of ALL the dryer vents in the building being the same age and squeaking in (or out of) unison. Perhaps you could plant subliminals around the building so that others will be bothered as well.

But really, how many people does it need to bother before they consider it a valid complaint?

I must say, I am at a loss to be of much real assistance on this matter. I hope some more folks chime in. In the meantime, maybe the white noise machine isn't such a bad idea. Or maybe a portable fan(?)...good luck!

haha

Great Idea...the more people I talk to about it, the more I hear that they have the same problem. Hopefully the building will do something soon.....or I'll chuck a cup of lubricant up at the vent....

thanks again

Great news! I have visions of dryer vents squeaking all over the building! People driving by and hearing this strange noise! Perhaps you can post a picture of the scaffolding all over the building as a team is dispatched to update them all!

Be careful hanging out that window to fling lubricant up there, good luck! Take care!
