I have a split level house that was built in 1960.They used the joists from the inside of the house to support the deck. There is blocking in between the joists to keep the elements outside.I'm tearing down the existing deck and I want to attach a ledger so I can hang the joists for the new deck.I'm doing this because the joists have rotted. How do I attach a ledger to the house? Is it possible to pre-drill holes into the existing ends of the joists and lag bolt the ledger to that? Any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated.
