I just moved to a new house and it has a gas hookup. I have never dealt with gas before so this is new. I need help just hooking up the hose from the gas line to the dryer. i dont know where to put the gas teflon tape and where not to. it looks fairly simple and i can do most anything so i am sure i can do this. my landlord will not help and the gas company wants $60 for 20 minutes. please help. i have searched the internet for how to books but no luck. Thanks

You can read a page about installing a gas line at the following link but I really suggest you have a professional do it. $60 is not that much to have to pay for piece of mind.

$60 is not all that much considering what might happen if you make a mistake and the line leaks. At the least, state plumbing codes usually dictate that gas plumbing must be done by a professional, and home owners insurance usually views things in the same light. Meaning that an unfortunate accident due to a homeowner trying to do something like this might lead to insurance being voided. Check with your local authorities...and the fellow you pay rent to.

I strongly agree with danO and treebeard. Hire a registered plumber to install your gas appliances. You can easily misjudge a flared fitting from a NPT. And if you should attempt to connect the FLEX line to a NPT without a flared fitting, the repurcussions could be serious. Never attempt to do work your not experienced in, especially GAS AND ELECTRIC.
