The Compressor on my ice box keeps going on and off rapidly,its not cooling at all or near enough,prior to this problem i just moved the box from one house to another trying to be careful with it,the first night we plugged it in it worked fine,the next day about noon or so it defrosted and will not cool since,i hear the compresser kicking on and off constanly,please help? thanks the box is a Whirlpool side by side with ice maker and water spigit.

Did you allow it to stand upright for an hour or more before plugging it back in?

Do NOT allow it to continue in that fashion or else damage to the compressor can be done (if it's not already the cause). Unplug it untill it can be look into!

well actually we let it set for 3 days before plugging it back in and turning it on,i have it unplugged since the compressor is acting funny,i would not let it keep running that way,but im not sure what to do now or which way to turn to see whats wrong,thanks Darlene

That's good, the move shouldn't be the cause then.
You're not running it on an extension cord are you? Poor voltage to the appliance can cause the compressor to "short cycle" like you described.
If that's not it, you'll likely need to have a professional look into it for you. The problem could be a defective compressor relay or overload, a defective start or run capacitor (if used on your model) or a defective compressor itself.
If the fridge is less than 5 years old, the compressor should be covered by warranty (usually excluding labour) should it be the cause of the problem. Be sure to tell the service depot it is now unplugged in case they want it plugged in prior to their visit.

when i first hooked it up and it run till next day it was plugged into a wall outlet direct,but when it defrosted and didnt start working again i pulled it out to see if i could see the fan running at this point i plugged it into a extension cord and that is when i noticed the compressor not running right,if it was running right or not just before i pulled it away from wall im not sure,but i had been told it had to get plenty of air circulation or it wouldnt work right eaither,so i thought by pulling it away from the wall and checking fan as well might fix it but no luck,thanks Darlene
