Dryer humming noise

Yesterday my dryer was making a squealing sound. Now when I try to start it I hear a faint humming noise. It will not even start.

It could be something is jammed, worn or a problem in the motor.

My ammeter reads 30 amps while it tries to start and hums.
Could it be a start winding or start capacitor problem?

Just the motor or whole dryer?

Dryer motors do not usually use start capacitors. If the windings are shorted or the motor is seized, the motor will need to be replaced.

What is the APPROX. cost for a technician to purchase and install a motor for a gas dryer?
