I think I have an odd sized dryer vent lover attachment. The plastic louvers are ~5" long and 1-3/4" high. The square box that fits on the 4" dia dryer vent has an opening that is about 5-3/16" by 5-1/4". This type of end connection is not sold at LOWE's or Home Depot (they sell the more common smaller sized louvers.

I am at a loss of trying to find the manufacturer of this type of end connection. I do not want to take it off since the replacement would be smaller.

Any suggestions of where I might find this? All I need are the louvers. One broke off.

Thanks

I can't see that being a dryer vent and have my doubts it would be adequate in many cases (see the link below). It may have originally been for some other purpose and just utilized for the dryer because it was there.

You can likely have something custom made by a tin smith or an HVAC installer but I would advise you to install a proper dryer vent cover to avoid any problems with the functioning of the dryer (especially newer models with all their built-in safety fuses/cutouts, etc.)

Thanks for your response.

I find it hard to believe that it was meant for something else since it is only slightly larger than the more common ~4.75 louvers. I have a run to the outside no longer than 4 ft so the resistance is minimal. I'll keep looking for a replacement for a little longer before I changeout the end piece. I really do not want to expose the siding anymore than I have to.

But that is 4.75 x 4.75. The way I calculate it, your ~5" long and 1-3/4" high louver has about 8.75 square inches of area whereas a 4.75 x 4.75 louver would have 22.5+ square inches of area. A considerable difference.

BTW. Did you notice the differences between recommended vent length for a 'big mouth' or louvered hood and the smaller mouth opening hood? Even that makes a sizable difference!

Probably so and if made of the best material possible (rigid metal ducting) with few or no elbows, all the better. You may however need to change it if you ever sell your house as I doubt it is up to building codes.

Thanks DanO.

I'm not sure if you understood me before about the 4.75" louvers. There are 3 louvers that are on the square face of the opening. The only difference between the existing installed louvers and the one at the store is the length of the 3 louvers (only about 0.5" difference if that). I currently have the middle one missing because I accidently broke off the end piece that makes it swivel in place.

I either have to replace it and suck it up or wait for that odd ball part.

Thanks

Oh. The size of the actual louvers used in the cover is not important to the proper venting of the dryer AFAIK, it's the over all area of the whole louvered cover which is important.

Good luck!

can't you just replace louvers on an exterior dryer vent
