This is so weird...I noticed today that the dishwasher, which I thought my son ran last night, still had soap running down it, all dried up. Thought he had just not shut the soap door and didn't turn it on. When he ran it again this afternoon, we opened it up and it looked the same - except I KNEW it had ran this time!

After lots of tests, looking at manual, I know this: a) the dishwasher isn't filling with water - in fact not one drop is making it in there, b) electronically, everything else is working, c) the water valve is on, d) checked hot water heater to make sure circut wasn't tripped (not sure why this mattered but manual said to try). The only thing else the manual suggested was to check if there was a kink in the intake pipe to the dishwasher - except it is a copper pipe and I can't figure out how that would kink up. This is a Jenn-Air dishwasher, about 4 1/2 years old. Was working great until yesterday.

Any ideas? I am not dishwasher savvy :-) Teach me oh wise ones!!!!

There is a float assy. in the tub, in the front on one side or the other. It shuts the water off at a certain level. Be sure that it is not stuck in the up position.
Next I would do a voltage check at the water fill valve, should be 120 volts when fill is supposed to be occurring.

That was it! There was a bottle top stuck under it which was hard to see as it was the same color as the dishwasher. Thank you so much...handwashing dishes is not fun!

You are welcome, glad that was all it was.
I have been in the appliance repair biz for 30 years and usually find the simple things are the right fixes.
