Hello First timer here: I have a Frigidaire Direct drive washer FLXG52RBS0, that does not agitate. It does spin and drain. I have a general repair manual. With it I believe I have eliminated the following: it's not a belt, or pulley. I took off the belt and the motor does engage but once I put the belt back on, it just hums (I know because it doesn't the words). can anyone help thanx in advance

** I have a Frigidaire Direct drive washer FLXG52RBS0 **

Frigidaire doesn't make a 'direct drive' washer, they all use belts. BTW. That model looks to be a "laundry center" (combination washer/dryer) not just a washer.

** once I put the belt back on, it just hums **

Can you turn the transmission's pulley in the agitate direction by hand?

Hey Dan O thanx for the response. Of course you are right it does have a belt I called it a direct drive because it didn't look like any of the other belt drives(no wig wag). Turning it by hand the shaft does turn. But I thought that when it agitates it rocks back and forth on that washer looking coupling.

The belt continually turns the transmission pulley the same direction. The back and forth motion of the agitator is done by the internal gears of the transmission.

If you can turn the transmission pulley in both directions by hand, I can't see what would cause the motor to just hum in agitate mode except maybe a problem in the motor (whether or not it runs when not under stress with the belt removed).

Turning the transmission pulley one way causes the agitator to agitate. When turning the pulley in the other direction (spin mode), the whole transmission should turn with it. It may be difficult to do the latter by hand.

Dan O. Sooo where does that leave me with my problem. It will spin but the transmission will not turn in opposite direction. Do you recomend pulling the transmission out? One way or the other I'll either fix it or make it worse. Though I would have perferred directions in a orderly manner. Any help would be appreciated.

If the agitator is not agitating when its pulley is turned in that direction, the transmission is likely locked up inside and needs to be replaced. That can be a pretty big job on that washer design and will need at least a new tub seal also. I'm not sure if you want to tackle it yourself but you can see those 2 components at the following URLs.

Well everybody I found the problem with my washer. A gear in the tranny snapped. Also one of the 3 tub supports was broken. Must have been some serious torque going on. Probably that sleeping bag my wife jamned in there (ha ha ) Going to try to braze the gear, and bracket. Can't seem to locate any place that will sell me just the gear I need.Don't want to fork out $ for new tranny. Trying to access whether it's worth it to replace tub seal etc..,Dan O. indeed it was a undertaking on my kitchen table.Any idead where I could get the gear from? thanx again Dan O>
