Hello, I hope someone can help me. We are in the process of building a vacation house in the Philippines where they use 220 volts on 50 hertz and I wanted to just purchase all the house lighting and some appliances due to the variety and the cheaper prices here. We have purchased some electronic appliances in the past and have successfully converted them to 220V with no problems. Is this possible too for lighting and if so, what concerns should I address before I have them done? Thank you in advance!

- Converting Appliance Voltage from 110V-220V
While it is possible to regulate voltage to an electronic device via a transformer, it is NOT possible to do the same for an electrical device.
You will need to purchase code specific electrical appliances to your specific region.

most large appliances dealers in the US can special order most appliances in 220v (generally at no extra fee). before you do this, you need to check with the customs in the country you will ship them to. Most countries have very steep duties (up to 200 percent) on equipment being imported in to their country. You then also have to ship the equiment there, pay for customs, then pay to get the equipment off the dock and into a warehouse. The other problem is that if US equipment breaks down, you may not be able to get parts (the US equipment can have very different parts than the similar unit that is made for sale in another country). In the long run, it may cost you more to purchase the item in the US than in the forign country
