Bvelectrical
Hi. We will be installing an electric slide-in range into our existing kitchen island. The island has a regular electric outlet.

We are new home owners and don't want to be over-charged for this work. Approx. how much should it cost to get the range cut-into the island, electrical upgraded (i.e. run 240), and vent the down-draft (it is a Jenn Air range)to the outside (which is a fair distance).

Also, are there any major consequences to installing a regular slide-in electric and not venting at all?

I am not an electrician nor contractor and have no idea of the layout of your home and what will be required for that work but I would guess $350++ easy.

BTW. If you are getting a Jenn Air downdraft, I STRONGLY suggest you get an *approved Jenn Air installer* to do the installation. If not installed properly, the vent won't work well.

There IS a limit to the length and number of turns the vent ducting can have and still be effective.

Just having to redo the installation or add a vent or maybe not be able to insure the property if local building code require venting. Not all do.
