Thank you so much Dan for sharing the link to that slide show. It was truly a time saver for us.

model# is 82872100, Serial# is 09510728. The timer moves along just fine making the clicking sound as it goes around, it's stopping at the Rinse/Spin cycle. All it does is make a buzzing noise almost like the motor is running but can't go any where. It stops then goes again until it finally gets to the done/off but there is still water in the tank.

My 70 series Kenmore washer also will not advance. My machine model # is 110.82370800. The washer seems to working on all functions except I need to manually advance the timer knob or it will stay the same place and runs forever. How to I determine if I need a lid switch or a timer.

It won't advance by itself *at all* or at just at select points in the cycle?

If the timer's motor was being powered the timer should be advancing. Power there but NO movement = defective timer.
