I have a Kenmore Washing Machine (70 Series). It's a hand-me-down, so I'm not sure how old it is and I don't have the owners manual. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it to balance. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to automatically balance, but even with the most evenly distributed load, it ends up pounding away.

Does anyone know how to get it to balance.

** Kenmore Washing Machine (70 Series) **

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the washer you have, what is needed is its model number ("70 Series" isn't it). You can find tips for locating the model number tag on your appliances at the following link:

The model number is 110 82875820. (The second to last digit might be a 3 or an 8. It's scratched and hard to tell.)

** The model number is 110 82875820. (The second to last digit might be a 3 or an 8.)

The numbers before that are in question too. The only two I found close starting 110.8287... were:

110.82872320

110.82872820

Both look to be the same Whirlpool built 'direct drive' washer design so that is encouraging at least... if either could be the model number of yours.

** It's a hand-me-down **

Did you just receive it or was the washer working in its *present location* previous to this current situation??

Ya, it's probably 110.82872820.

I've had it for 6 months. It used to work just fine. It just been in the last several weeks that I've notice it seems to start "banging around" during the spin cycle (regardless of the load).

In that case the tub suspension pads may have become worn. You can read a bit about them at the following page:

BTW. If needed, you can get a repair manual covering Whirlpool built direct drive washers at this link:

JFYI
