I am in the process of designing a kitchen for a Modular Home I am purchasing. I am going to put a Electric Downdraft with exchangeable Modules ...anyone have any input. I have heard good and bad...on the Jennair I hear that the downdraft is not powerful enough to draw the smoke, and it causes the smoke detectors to go off. Consumer Reports recommends the Kenmore, actually after the Jennair, but I believe that may be because of cost?

** on the Jennair I hear that the downdraft is not powerful enough to draw the smoke **

That mainly depends on how it is installed. A long exhaust duct and/or lots of elbows will limit the amount of air it will be able to vent. Have someone familiar with their installation do and/or plan the installation.

** Consumer Reports recommends the Kenmore **

Maybe by who?

S ears doesn't manufacture anything they sell, they just rebrand other companies products with the Kenmore name (see the following link). I'm pretty sure whomever manufacturer the particular model for S ears (likely Jenn-Air) has a model of similar (if not exactly the same) venting power.
