Occasionally my 6 year old Kenmore 70 Series washer will drain water while filling during the wash cycle. I usually notice this about 1/2 hour later when the water is still running into the tub, the tub is only half full and the timer is still on the wash cycle. If I am lucky, it will have filled faster than drained and I can adjust the water level low enough to start the agitator which has always stopped the drain process. I then reset the water level and continue filling. If there isn't enough water in the tub to do that, the other thing that has worked is to change to a rinse cycle and start filling. Once the draining stops, I've always been able to go back to the wash cycle and continue filling. What could be causing this. This happens about one of 10 loads.

Sounds like your drain stand pipe is too low, or the drain hose is clamped to the drain hose, leaving no air gap. An anti-siphon valve installed on the drain hose should help.

Hi,

**6 year old Kenmore 70 Series washer**

Kenmore is made by several different companies....only the model# will help to ID what style Kenmore you have.

**washer will drain water while filling during the wash cycle**

Outlaw mentions the most common trouble area...

I agree with Outlaw. An incorrectly installed drain how (see the following link) is the most likely cause. Either that or the water fill is just too slow to allow the tub to fill in a reasonable amount of time.

- My washer doesn't seem to be able to hold water. What's the problem?

I mentioned the anti-siphon possibility to my husband who never thought of that possibility... he was convinced we needed to trash the washer even though it's fine otherwise. The anti-siphon was in pretty bad shape so he replaced it.

Thank you for suggesting it. Saved a perfectly good washer from being dragged to the curb. Thank you!
