Hi,

I'm new to the BBS website here and read some of the other postings regarding obtaining an Owner's Manual to a Kenmore Electric Range. I'm in the same boat. My model stove, which came with the purchase of my home also, is #911.93578891. Sears.com replied back to me and said that they have no information for me regarding this model.

Is my model Kenmore similar to another brand, like GE or Whirlpool? And, if so, which model of their brand would I search to obtain a similar Owner's Manual?

Thanks,

Scott L.

I don't see it listed there either. Did you actually try *contacting* Sears to see if they can trace it for you??? Not every model ever produced will be listed on-line.

By the model number it would be closest to a GE model but I have no idea how you'd go about finding an equivalent... if there even is one. Sorry.

Dan O.,

Thanks Dan for moderating this room often and getting back to me real quickly.

I did contact Sears®, as you suggested, and a customer service rep. informed me that the appliance could've been manufacturered by Roper®. She said that GE® makes Roper® however, when I went to www.roperappliances.com I was noticing Whirlpool® which reminds me of how similar my range is compared to my parents' range circa 1992. Therefore I wrote to them to inquire about an Owner's Manual and will wait to see if I get any feedback.

Thanks again,

Scott L.

** a customer service rep. informed me that the appliance could've been manufactured by Roper® **

The 911... model number prefix indicates appliances built in the Roper manufacturing plant, which GE now owns and where they make their own products.

While Whirlpool now owns the Roper brand *name*, appliances sold under that name will not usually bear any resemblance to what you have. Appliances sold as "Roper" now are basically lower-end Whirlpool products.

You will not find any web sites devoted to the original Roper appliances.

** I wrote to them to inquire about an Owner's Manual **

That's the best idea or calling them.

Dan O.,

Thanks again for your advice.

I have contacted the G.E. website and wrote to them. I got a little lengthy but explained to them that this particular appliance was a Kenmore most likely manufactured under Roper which, back at that time, was under G.E. Let's see what kind of response I get.

P.S. What's "JMO" mean? You got me on that abbreviation. LOL!

Dan O.,

Well, I am finally back with an answer from the GE Answer Center…which is no answer!

GE Answer Center customer service representative informed me that GE can only produce an owner's manual for a GE product; that if this product was manufactured for Sears [Kenmore®] that the literature would have to be obtainable from Sears, not GE. I further tried to persist that they may have a GE® model similiar to my Kenmore® model (see model # above in subject line) and they insisted that they were not able to help me.

So I guess I'm out of luck with obtaining any owner's manual for this range. Just the same, thanks for your assistance in mentioning that this particular model was probably originally manufactured by GE®. It was worth the shot to at least try to obtain a manual.

Sincerely,

SCOTT L.

Just because they may have made the original doesn't necessarily mean they make a comparable model under their own brand name. The oven body and panels, etc. may be the same but the other individual components used in it and their functioning may be different. There is usually not any way to tell which model might be 'closest' so I don't think you'd get far that way.

Did they find a listing for your model or not? That would be all that's needed to see if a manual is still available. If they did NOT find your model listed, maybe you should double check it?

** What's "JMO" mean? *

JMO = Just My Opinion.

BTW. If it's just the functioning of the control you need instructions for, if you can get its part number, that number *may* be able to be traced to a different model to see if its instructions are available. The rest of its documentation may not be applicable to yours.

Dan,

Thanks for your help and educating me about the model numbers, etc. In the interim I tried two more ideas.

First, I called up the daughter of the elderly lady from whom I purchased this house and she had no idea where the stove's manual was, however, suggested that I check under the utility drawer to see if it was in there. Sure enough, there was something close to it called a "technical data sheet" containing the stove's wiring diagrams, etc.

On the front of this one sheet of paper it said, "for Kenmore model #s 911.93571, 911.93575, 911.93576 and 911.93578. That last number '911.93578' is the root of my above mentioned model number. So I went back to the Sear's website and plugged that in and it recognized it as a 30" Electric Free-Standing Range but had no information on it. From there I wrote to Sears one more time and sure enough they said that they have an owner's manual that is close to it with this link here:

http://www3.sears.com/Paul/model_search.asp?model_num=911.93578790

This is for Model #911.93578790 and when I looked at it's "Backguard" section, it showed the back panel which very closely resembled my own appliance.

This link offered me to purchase the owner's manual for $4.49 + tax and so I ordered one.

I guess we can call this "Case Closed" now. Thanks for your quick responses and assistance throughout this manual search.

Sincerely,

SCOTT L.

I'm not exactly sure what the rest of Kenmore model numbers represent. If anyone does, maybe they can let us know?

Good luck!
