We are buying a house with a Jenn-Air electric cooktop, with downdraft vent and COILS; we want to replace it with a smooth top and want to know if anyone has any information (reviews) on the Jenn-air JED8430B 30" "Jenn-Air Electric Downdraft Cooktop" Does anyone know how well the downdraft and cooktop perform?
THANK YOU!

Thank you Jeff,
I guess it's going to take me a good while to find something that is GOOD... Buying new appliances can be fun and exciting...AND FRUSTRATING TOO!
Thank you!

Does the original cooktop have interchangeable 'cartridges' (see the following link) which can be replaced separately?

If so, just those should be able to be replaced to give you 'smooth top' cooking surfaces without having to replace the whole rest of the appliance... which can be sometimes be difficult with older, built-in models, - finding another with the exact same cabinet 'fit' (see this link) not to mention connections to the venting.

Hi Dan O,
We were at the Bay and Scarff store looking at the smooth tops yesterday. We close on the new house (new to us) this coming Wednesday; I'll take the module from the existing cooktop with me to the store this coming week and hope to find a match. A total smooth-top would be nice, but I'd settle for just not having the coils...so if we can find a module that fits...that's what we'll do.
Thank you for your posting!

Hi and THANK YOU all,
My husband and I went to Bray and Scarff. Since they are able to able the Jennair Cooktop Moduels/Cartridges, that's the route we decided on for NOW...it takes care of the problem or the nuisance of coils.
We will eventually replace the entire cooktop...with a BIGGER one (36 or 42) but we'll wait until we decide to take the plunge and replace the tile countertops with Quartz or Corian...for now, this will work.
Again, thank you. Okay...on to the next project.
