How fast do clothes washer discharge water?

The washer will discharge into a basin pump which inturn will pump it up about 6 ft to sewer level.

The basin pump has a 10 gal holding tank and will pump about 2000 GPH (33 GPM). It only has a 1 1/2" inlet and discharge.

I am wonder if this will keep up with the washer or if I should install a laundry tub so that an excess can backup in the laundry tub.

I'm afraid I do not know that (and it may vary depending on washer make and model) but if you ask in the plumbing forum, someone may be able to tell you the plumbing requirements for a clothes washer drain stand pipe. If your setup is capable of that, you may be Ok although a laundry tub would likely give you some leeway in case of failures.

One washer's installation instructions says, "A minimum 2” diameter drain pipe with a minimum carry-away capacity of 17 gallons per minute is required".

Billhart:

I responded to your identical post in the plumbing area.

Long and short of it is this described pump will not accomodate direct connection to your washing machine, and that it is similiarly (by virtue of its 1-1/2" discharge and that you have not indicated the presence of a macerator grinder function) would not be proper for your alternative of first discharging to a laundry tub. This pump is although closer to what you'd need for the laundry tub discharge...it is still not adequate.

Return the pump and buy one appropriate for your application (whether you decide to install a laundry tub to first discharge into, or proceed with a direct discharge of your washing machine to a pump).
