A friend has a Whirlpool model AC2104XT1 window (or through the wall) AC. Knowing how this house was built they likely boxed in a window unit, but that is not the issue.

The unit won't shutoff althrough the setpoint it reached. But you can hear the thermostat click.

I just wanted to verify that the thermostat directly controls the compressor and that there is not a power relay.

Looking here I see the thermostat.

And there is a STARTING relay.

But if there description is accurate it would only be used for switching in the starting cap and would not affect it from shutting off.

Just wanted to verify that before I torn into it.

Does its electrical contacts open? No open = bad control.

Yes.

** And there is a STARTING relay. **

That was only an optional accessory which could be added should the

compressor experience a 'hard staring' condition. Even if installed,

it shouldn't prevent the compressor from shutting off when the control

told it to.
