The sides, door and top of my electric Amanna clothes dryer get very hot. This has not been the case in the past. I have opened up the cabinet and cleaned the lint and also cleaned the roof vent, but the problem persists. I am afraid it will start a fire-any ideas?

How about the vent ducting *all the way from the dryer to the outdoors* (see the following link)?

If the dryer can not exhaust properly to the outdoors, it will likely cycle on the safety protector instead of the temperature thermostat which can cause the dryer to become too hot. And yes, it would be dangerous to continue to use it in that condition!

BTW. It is sometimes possible to tell if the venting might be the problem by totally removing it from the dryer for a load or two (only!) to see if the conditions persist or not. If they went away, it would be a pretty sure indicator of where the problem lies.

Dryer is actually a Speed Queen Model# NE8533L Serial# S6141853WK. Yes, I had already cleaned the complete vent pipe/system and had also tried running a couple of loads with the vent disconnected. The result was the same...

Than there may be a problem with proper air flow through the dryer or the temperature control not operating properly. Poor seals on the drum or the blower (see the following link) no longer properly mounted on the motor shaft are possible causes of air flow problems through the dryer.
