I know what Denise is talking about... not only do we have the chemical smell on both side of our 6 yr old side-by-side GE, we also noticed that the smell is getting into some foods... What is it & how do we get rid of it?

There's aren't many places odors in refrigerators can come from, rotting spillage, etc., open food stuffs, and possibly a burning electrical connection or component.

How to get rid of it will depend on the cause. Until that is isolated, it will be difficult to say how to correct it but you can read a bit about spillage odors at the following link:
