If you post there *complete* model AND serial numbers, we might be able to tell you. The model numbers 82870100 and 86860100 are both missing their 3-digit prefix which identifies the manufacturer (see the following link) which is also necessary.

** 70 Series Washer heavy duty Model 82870100 (Serial # 83099104) **

I found a listing for a model 110.82870100 which would make it a Whirlpool built model but that serial number does not conform to their date coding system.

** Heavy Duty dryer model 86860100 (Serial #M93535603) **

I found a listing for a model 110.86860100, again it would have been built by Whirlpool. According to the the information I have, that serial number should indicate the appliance was manufactured the 35th week of 1989.

"70 series" is just an indicator of the number of features the washer has. 60 Series being bottom of the line, 70 the next up, 80 the next, 90 the top of the line (ie. most features).

Those same 'series' are marketed by Sears every year, it is not an indicator of the appliance's age or anything else. Only a valid serial number will identify its manufacturing date.

When you locate the appliance's model and serial number identification tag, you can then use the service found in the Appliance411 'Home Service' section to try to determine the age of many different brands of major home appliances.

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

- Model Number Tag Location Search
