Judy, please post the appliance's full model number so we can look up what design of Kenmore washer you're dealing with.

You can find tips for locating the model number identification tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.

In case anyone reads this it IS the safety switch. try putting something on the plunger on the lid to extend it (make it longer) Worked perfectly when we did. SIGH........

Mine will also stop at the rinse and spin cycle. in order for me to make it continue is if i disconnect from the wall mount for 5 to 30 minutes, connect it again and start it up once more. Yet that doesn't work all the time. what do you think is wrong? what do i do?

the washer will not drain, at one point the lid was open and it still moved back and forth (agitate) but will not drain with lid close or open. check the hose clear of debris up to the machine, when unplug hose at bottom of machine water flowed out

I have a 80 Series direct drive Kenmore washer that wouldn't drain or spin as described in the foregoing. After learning that the lid switch was the likely culprit I discovered I could remove the lid switch from the cabinet without removing the conol or top of the washer. I then discovered that the switch enclosure had largely separated into 2 halves and when pressed together everything began to work correctly. I used a short piece of galvanized wire to wrap around the outside of the lid switch enclosure, reinstalled the switch in the cabinet, and everything is working fine. It took about 10 min. If it stops working again I will just buy a new lid switch.
Thanks for the assistance - it saved a lot of time, effort, and money. CWB

I followed the steps above and got it to work by resetting the safety switch back into place, thanks all for the help but now something else... It ran a full cycle 100% then the next wash it only filled water and died. It doesn't do anything now. Please help
