Dan,

Thank you for all you help with the other GE ovens. I have a GE XL model # JGBP30WEA1WW. The oven is not working, the waist-high broiler also is not working; the range top burners all work.

The ignitor does NOT glow.

How should I proceed to find out if the ignitor or the valve is bad?

Thanks for whatever help you can be.

Michael

If you've read my previous posts you should have come across the link to a page describing how such a system works:

- Understanding Gas Oven Ignition Systems

LINK > http://www.appliance411.com/links/jump.cgi?ID=823

On that page it should describe checking the ignition system components for continuity in an effort to try to isolate where the power stoppage in the ignition circuit is.

Thank you for the help. I have checked the oven's ignitor and it seems bad - no continuity - while the corresponding side of the gas valve does have continutiy. I'll replace the oven's ignitor.

I notice that there are two ignitors, one for the oven and one for the broiler. Are they interchangable? and if so, can I switch them and get the oven working while the replacement ignitor arrives?

Thanks

It sounds like you found the problem.

On your model they should work in place of each other although their wiring harnesses might have to be cut and rejoined as they might not be the same. When rejoining the wires, *ceramic* wire nuts must be used. Plastic wire nuts will melt with the heat of the oven!

THe burners are working, the ignitor light is on. It appears the gas is not getting to the igniter. I tried to light it with a flame, nothing happened. THere is no smell of gas? Any ideas?
