I've had this hot water tank for maybe 2 years. I always kept it at "C" so I could take a shower, do laundry, and the dishes. The pilot light has never stayed lit for more than a month at a time since I had the tank installed. Now the pilot will not stay on long enough to heat a tank of water if I put the dial above "A". What could be wrong??

You might want to post your question in Bob's plumbing forum as a water heater is really considered an "appliance". It is plumbers that usually look after them.

There is also an excellent forum there called "the tank".

Lots of water heater diagnosis tips, maintenance tips and repair tips on the main site if you still can't find the answer, post your question in the forum there. Be sure to include your model number, indicate the fuel source (NG or propane) and the date code from your water heater.

also check the site for recall information, as several AO Smith water heaters have been recalled over the years. Quite recently, a large number of those using propane were recalled as well.
