**The front doesn't want to reattach. It looks like there are two clips that have become pushed closed.**

I -thought- on this style dryer the front clipped into place first ( by sliding the top towards the back ) and then the back was screwed down.

The lid worked out fine. Got it back on with no problems. We have another problem with the dryer. All of the problems started when it quit heating. I did some investigating and took the bulkhead out to sears and they tested it and said it was the heat element. I bought a new one and put it in. The dryer doesn't get as hot with the new heat element as it used to get. Even running it on cotton setting won't get the clothes dry. Any suggestions?

Q - Dryer takes too long to dry or multiple times to dry a load

A1- Pull the dryer out away from the wall. Unhook the vent from the dryer completely. Do not put anything over the dryer exhaust on the back of the dryer. Do a normal load with the vent unhooked. If it dries better or ok like this then the problem is in the dryer venting. Like a blocked vent pipe or a smashed or restricted vent hose.

A2 - If the vent doesn't make a difference, then check the blower wheel for excessive lint build up, check that there isn't anything stuck to the air intake baffle inside the drum, (i.e. the screen on the back wall of the dryer when looking into the drum). Check the lint filter chute for blockage. Check that the heating element isn't shorted to ground. Check the exhaust temperature of the dryer. A meat or pocket thermometer can be used for this. It should cycle approx between 120 degrees and 160 degrees ( without clothes ). Check that the drum seals are not worn out.

Thanks again for the advice. I haven;t checked the output temperature yet but everything seems to be back to Normal. The vent hose on back of the dryer was crushed.

Any advice on a vent cleaning tool? the vent goes into the floor then through the basement. I can take the duct apart in the basement if I need to but would rather not.

Was it flexible venting? That stuff should be avoided at all costs IMO.

It was flexible venting. The hose comes out of our dryer and makes 2 90 degree turns before going out the back wall. I bought a different one this time that is more rigid. hopefully it will give me better service.
