I have had this washing machine for several years of faithful service. Last night, it quit moving to the next cycle! If I turn it off and physically turn the know to the next cycle, it works fine. It just won't move to the next cycle on its own.

Any suggestions?

** Kenmore Washing Machine Model 23812100 **

The complete model number looks to be 110.23812100 making it a Whirlpool built 'direct drive' washer design.

** Last night, [the timer] quit moving to the next cycle! **

At what exact point in the wash cycle (eg. agitate, spin, drain) did it stop?

** If I turn it off and physically turn the knob to the next cycle, it works fine. **

All the way through the cycle from start to finish?

Was it a different cycle or the same one that malfunctioned previously?

Each independent cycle of the wash seems to work fine, the washer simply won't move from one cycle to the next.

When I start the washer, it fills and starts the wash cycle . . . and will continually wash until we turn it off and physically move the knob to spin. Then the machine will spin (for hours if we leave it), but won't move to rinse. If we turn it off and move the knob to rinse, it rinses, but won't move to spin until we (again) move the knob to the next cycle.

Any ideas?

If the timer *never* advanced by itself, it is likely defective and needs to be replaced.

If the timer's motor is getting power but the timer is not advancing, it is a sure sign it is defective.
