Have a 6 1/2 year old Kenmore elite washer. It will not spin to drain water. Model is 110.22052.100. Ran diagnostics by presssing Agitation Time, Delay Start, Agitation Time, Delay Start and Hand Wash/Casual. Motor humms but it does not move (this is the Motor drains at high Speed test). Pressed Hand Wash/Casual again (This is the motor drains at medium speed test) and washer spins and drains. Pressed Hand Wash/Casual again (This is the motor drains at slow speed test) and it also works. It just will not spin and drain at high speed. I tried the different pre-sets, heavy duty, normal, permanent press, hand wash etc, and they wash fine but when it is time to spin they all stop when it tries to drain and produce an electrical fire smell. I am guessing that it is the gearcase that does not work on fast speed but I do not want to buy it and for it to turn out to be something else. Has someone else had this experience. The contorls are all buttons with LED numbers and lights.

Thanks,

It is the motor that is responsible for the different speeds not the gearcase (aka. transmission). It is likely that just that one speed winding of the motor has burned out.

Thanks for the info. I removed the motor and ran the fast medium and slow speed tests again with the motor off the machine. Same results, fast speed failed and just hummed. It tried to turn a few times but stopped. Medium and slow still worked. So this confirms taht the motor is bad. I'll order it tonight.

Thanks for your help,

Hi,

I just received the new motor but it still does the same thing. It just hums at high speed but runs at medium and low speeds. Could it be the solenoid? I do not know how to test it. If it is, I need to find one locally (Dallas, TX) since we needed to wash clothes yesterday.

Thanks,

What solenoid? The only ones I know of are part of the water valve and would have nothing to do with the motor's operation.

Check to make sure all the wires are properly mounted in the connectors in the wiring harness. Maybe one has become dislodged or broken. I can't think of anything other than that or the control possibly being responsible. Sorry.

Thanks, I'll check the wires. Sorry, I meant capacitor, not solenoid.

It may be the control board after all. I did more reading on the diagnostics sheet that was in the washer. I tested the voltage at all 3 speeds. I get 120 VAV on medium and slow. I get zero on High speed. The diag sheet says taht if any point does not show 120, the board needs to be replaced.

I'll order the board next and will cancel the capacitor order.
