Our Kenmore, model # 41792042101, seems to warm up when we start the dryer, but cools down about five or ten minutes thereafter. Any clues what might be wrong?
Thank you.

- Kenmore gas dryer unable to sustain heat
.
One of the first steps in diagnosing heating problems in a gas dryer is direct observion of what the gas burner's ignitor is doing when it should be heating. Eg. Is it continuously glowing, cycling on and off, not glowing at all, etc.
If you can provide those observations we may be able to suggest the possible cause or areas that will need further investigation.
But even before that, has anyone checked the dryer's venting right from the dryer *to the outdoors*? It being plugged or partially plugged could cause the burner to shut off prematurely and would also be a possible fire hazard (see the following link).

Can you walk me through disassembling the dryer to make an observation of the ignitor on this model?
Additionally, I notice the smell of gas when I open the door of the dryer, after it has been running for few minutes.

I'm afraid that due to liability I am unable to tell you how to service your appliances. Your dryer model was however made for Sears by Frigidaire. The service manual at the following link should cover repairs to your model as well.

I'm afraid the needed observations are going to be more difficult to get on your dryer design.
Often gas dryers will have a front access panel below the door that can be removed to view its operation while in use. Others have just a small 'peep hole' in the front panel for that purpose. Yours doesn't look to have either. On it the front panel will likely need to be removed and the drive system disconnected and the gas turned off to watch the burner's operation with the front panel off.

Are you sure it is gas? If you've been painting or using cleaning or other chemicals in the area, when burnt in the dryer's burner can result in strange odors in the dryer.
Other than that an out of adjustment burner flame might cause it or it might just be another symptom of the burner failure.
